Based on our feedbacks from both: Markos and Alexandra, we have started to experiment in achieving different backgrounds. Our first approach was painting using acrylics for the characters and watercolours for backgrounds. We have painted on top of the photographs and on reduced capacity photographs. Elena and Temenuzhka were doing most of the paintings, but my task consisted of preparing the materials and backgrounds to paint.
We have also been suggested to start breaking our composition and our characters into layers, so their different part can be than animated individually. By dividing everything in bits in pieces, we discovered that it could become a part of our methodology. We have divided cut elements with white border which then become part of our style.

This is an example of how we treated our backgrounds, floor and walls are painted watercolour textures, but the rest is real life pictures.

By contrasting the two examples of our development, I think we made a huge step forward. In the past, (image 2) our illustration looked chubby and were overwhelmed with unnecessary details, and our characters became lost in them. Also I feel like we didn't have control over our composition and structure. Nevertheless now, (image 1) we are in charge of our composition, and changing things became much easier. Our characters became the centre of our animation, so we can carry on the production without let or hindrance.
Animating Rubby by splitting his body part to different layers

We created a shared drive to communicate and share ideas more effectively, as well as a facebook group chat. In that way we were up to date of our task allocations and spreading ideas.
