This is the approximate background style that we like as a group, it is playful and colourful as well as textured. We thought that use of textures itself is very interesting approach because it makes the animation more detailed and simply interesting.
This is an example of harmony between background and characters that we want to achieve in our final piece, we would like to ensure that everything feels like the same piece.
Narrative
Our narrative will be taking place in a museum, where all of our characters will express their personalities. At the beginning, Adele will be introduced to the viewers as a statue on the pedestal, it will symbolise her arrogance and attention seeking nature. Eddie will have a role of a museum visitor, whose role at the beginning will to familiarise viewers with the museums settings, for example, he will act as a typical visitor and photograph the museum exhibition.
Bob will not change his habits, and will act as a trouble maker once more, and push adele down from her pedestal. Last, but not least: Robbie will be the museum guard, who will try to restore the discipline within the museum space! (see rough storyboard sketch below)
Style
We went to the Greenwich Maritime museum to gain some inspiration, experience the real life museum space and take some pictures.
We have than started to experiment with the image trace tool in illustrator using pictures of different museum spaces. Our aim was to shift away from real-life background and experimenting with the styles we could come up.
We have also wanted our characters to look harmonious with the background, so we have applied the same effect of trace.
We created s short video test, to check out how the particular style will coordinate with the characters.
Going through feedback session, we we advised to re-examine our style, because it is associated strongly with the adobe photoshop effects as well as cheap and easy method to tweak an image.
By referring back to our inspiration, and contrasting them became clear that our stylistic choices seek improvement.
